In an effort to provide clarity on the United School District's plans for face coverings for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year, the following information explains our current plan for making face coverings optional when in school.
The state mandated face covering order expired on June 28, 2021. This announcement indicated that all face covering requirements for visitors, students, and District employees were lifted in accordance with the announcement from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. However, those individuals who are not vaccinated, under the age of 12, or are at high risk are not required, but should consider the option to continue to wear masks per guidance from the Centers for Disease Control. As well, please know that under a Federal order issued January 2021, the Centers for Disease Control requires face coverings, regardless of vaccination status, when on public transportation - this includes wearing face coverings when on school buses.
We will continue to monitor the situation, and if there are any revisions to our plan, we will be sure to make you aware of the changes.
