Goal of Plan

The United School District’s Goal is to provide all students with Continuity of Education for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, as it is important that students have the opportunity to maintain and develop skills while away from the customary school environment.

Overview of Plan

The District will engage students through Planned Instruction by providing formal teaching and learning similar to that which occurs in a classroom setting.  Within this process teachers use planned courses of instruction on new concepts/skills aligned to grade level standards.  Teacher assess the learning of their students and make adjustments to instruction based upon student progress.  In order to receive grade and credit, students must attend regularly and complete the course requirements.

Planned Instruction will begin on April 16, 2020.

Prior to this date, students were engaged in Enrichment and Review activities that reinforced and extended their prior learning.

                              Expectations for Teaching and Learning

Students will engage with activities as defined through the work assigned by their teacher(s).  Students are to complete the work independently, however, teachers will be available each day during regular school hours, beginning March 30, 2020.  Completed work will be returned to the teacher no later than June 4, 2020.

Communication Tools and Strategies

The District will be providing communication through the District website and Facebook pages, as well as delivering messages through our SchoolMessenger service that reaches all families.  Mailings to all families are also a way that we are communicating with those in our District.

Access (Devices, Platforms, Handouts)

Students will be completing assignments via computer or paper/pencil. Information regarding the assignments are mailed to each family. And, packets are mailed to those who do not have internet or lack internet connectivity/accessibility in their homes/area.

Staff General Expectations

Teachers will communicate with their students regarding the assignments.  Communication will be done via phone, email, Remind, and/or Google Classroom.  Teachers are expected to be working each school day, during regular school hours.

Teachers will respond to student questions during regular school hours.

Teachers will limit the amount of work assigned during this unprecedented crisis.

Student Expectations

Students will complete assignments that were provided by their teachers.

Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers for help or to have their questions answered during regular school hours.

Attendance / Accountability

Students will be considered present and participating and completing assignments each school day, unless the school receives notification from the parent/guardian that the student is absent from instruction that day.

Good Faith Efforts for Access and Equity for All Students

The United School District Board of Directors, Administration, Faculty and Staff are putting forth their Good Faith Efforts in providing educational access and equity for all student.

Special Education Supports

Administrators, Teachers, and Paraprofessionals will be collaborating with general education teachers in providing support to students with disabilities.

Special Education Teachers and their Paraprofessionals will continue to differentiate instruction, making adaptations and accommodations, through communications with their students.

EL Supports

English Language Learner supports will be provided by those teachers who support specific students identified in need of these services.

Gifted Education

Students identified as Gifted Learners will be supported by those teachers who support them during the normal, regular school day.
