The United School District recognizes that student wellness and proper nutrition are related to students’ physical well-being, growth, development, and readiness to learn. The Board is committed to providing a school environment that promotes student wellness, proper nutrition, nutrition education, and regular physical activity as part of the total learning experience. In a healthy school environment, students will learn about and participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices that can improve student achievement.

The Wellness Committee meets monthly to review the Wellness Policy, promote nutrition education and physical activity opportunities for our students.

'New' Student Hydration Initiative:

Students are permitted to carry a water bottle during the school day. This will help students to stay hydrated, healthy, and ready to learn! In order to carry a water bottle throughout the school day, students must adhere to the following:

Water only (no flavored water or sparkling water; just plain water is permitted.)

Water Bottle Requirements:

Plastic (no glass, no stainless steel, no metal bottles, no ceramic, etc.)

Clear, no tint or color, but can be disposable or reusable

Labeled with student’s name and homeroom

Equipped with a lid that seals tightly

Maximum capacity of 32oz

Students must not be late to class due to filling up their water bottles (they have time prior to homeroom, in between classes, during lunch, etc.).

If the water bottle becomes a “toy” or a distraction in a class, the teacher can take the water bottle for the remainder of the class period.

Students are to keep water bottles away from computers and other school electronic devices/equipment.

Teachers may designate a location within the classroom for water bottles or occasionally restrict access dependent on the class activity (i.e. science lab)

For safety reasons: Students are not permitted to eat or drink on the bus.

Monthly, the United Wellness Committee will be sharing Nutritional Information about a featured fruit or vegetable; which includes nutritional recommendations and a recipe. Open the link below to learn about each month's feature.
