Conemaugh School of Nursing and Allied Health has scheduled a School of Nursing virtual information session for Saturday, January 25 at 10:00 am. Resources regarding acceptance criteria, prerequisites, curriculum, and supportive services will be discussed. The sessions should be approximately one hour.

Due to recent weather delays, the Winter Keystone Testing Schedule at United High School has been modified. Algebra on 1/8 and 1/9 Literature on 1/10 and 1/13 Biology 1/14 and 1/15 All students and parents registered for these exams have been notified.

VFW Writing Contest Winners Six United High School students were recognized for excellence in writing by the New Florence VFW Post 7622. Students competed in both the Patriot’s Pen competition for 6th through 8th grade students and the Voice of Democracy contest for 9th through 12th graders. In the Patriot’s Pen writing contest, eighth graders James Tweardy, Emma Burda, and Audrianna Day placed in the contest writing on the theme “My Voice in America’s Democracy.” Jimmy won first place, Emma second, and Audrianna third. Ninth graders Jesse Sokira, Elizabeth Moyer, and Reese Hoffman placed in the Voice of Democracy contest. This year’s Voice of Democracy writing theme is “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision.” Jesse placed first, Elizabeth second, and Reese third in the senior high division. The essay winners in both divisions will go on to the state VFW competition later this year. Students and their parents were invited to the VFW for an awards reception. New Florence Post commander Anthony Rivera spoke at the ceremony and commended each student. Crystal Gindlesperger coordinated the writing contest with United teachers Vicki Stelma, Michelle Dunn, and John Dunn.
