EVERY DAY MATTERS at United!
Attending school is important—every day matters! From now until the end of the
school year, United Elementary will have “Every Day Matters Days." On these days, a special activity will be planned for students who are in attendance. Here’s the catch--students will not know until they get to school if it is an Every Day Matters Day.
Today was our first Every Day Matters Day! Thank you to our United High School boys and girls basketball teams who joined our students during lunch periods. Students had the opportunity to meet them and watch them shoot some baskets!

VFW Writing Contest Winners
Six United High School students were recognized for excellence in writing by the
New Florence VFW Post 7622. Students competed in both the Patriot’s Pen
competition for 6th through 8th grade students and the Voice of Democracy contest for
9th through 12th graders.
In the Patriot’s Pen writing contest, eighth graders James Tweardy, Emma Burda,
and Audrianna Day placed in the contest writing on the theme “My Voice in America’s
Democracy.” Jimmy won first place, Emma second, and Audrianna third.
Ninth graders Jesse Sokira, Elizabeth Moyer, and Reese Hoffman placed in the
Voice of Democracy contest. This year’s Voice of Democracy writing theme is “Is
America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision.” Jesse placed first, Elizabeth second, and
Reese third in the senior high division. The essay winners in both divisions will go on to
the state VFW competition later this year.
Students and their parents were invited to the VFW for an awards reception. New
Florence Post commander Anthony Rivera spoke at the ceremony and commended
each student. Crystal Gindlesperger coordinated the writing contest with United
teachers Vicki Stelma, Michelle Dunn, and John Dunn.
