OUTDOOR ODYSSEY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY OUTDOOR ODYSSEY at roaring run shi Academy BUILDING TEAMS AND DEVELOPING LEADERS SINCE 1998 CHILDRA HELPIN CHILDRE CHILDREN HELPING CHILDREN To our partners in education, supporting students in leadership development through Outdoor Odyssey, It is with great excitement, pride, and awe that Outdoor Odyssey enters into its 26th summer! Over the past twenty-five years, we've had thousands of high school students in over twenty school districts attend Leadership Academy and return a second week to mentor younger students from their community, earning hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours-hours served through us but directly impacting your communities. In 2019, we became a Certifying Organization through Points of Light and started submitting our volunteers' service hours, earning each high school mentor a Presidential Volunteer Service Award. In these past five years, even through a couple of Covid summers, we've had 320 volunteers earn 62,695 hours of service! As teenagers change and evolve through a largely social media-fused generation, we realize that the commitment and sacrifice our volunteer mentors make is incredible-absolutely extraordinary! We felt that we should do more to honor each mentor's 100 hours of service by giving every graduating mentor a green cord. This green cord signifies that each student who wears one, wears it proudly to represent the understanding of being a "giver" to society through investing in someone else. These young leaders were taught the importance and value of leading with humility and integrity, and in order to rise, they must challenge themselves to do hard things and step outside their comfort zones. These mentors have learned leadership and built their resumes by investing in something (and someone outside of themselves. Their contribution is an invaluable investment into their communities and their future selves; we are proud and excited to applaud them in this way. Thank you for your support!
